Dear friends, I wish to renew our sincere thanks for the great participation in the conference held last 18th of May at the New College of Pavia "In vitro tests in the cosmetic and medical device sector: evolution of the scientific research". The participation of companies working in the sector and representatives of scientific research was excellent. A special thanks to those who held the introduction: Prof. Francesco Svelto (Vice Rector of the Third Mission of the University of Pavia), who stressed the importance of a close link between academic and business world, to create impact and innovative research; Prof. Stefano Ramat (Director of “Parco Tecnico Scientifico” Pavia), who allows us to carry out research activities within our microbiology, in vitro and chemical-physical laboratories at the incubator of bio-tech companies in Pavia. Thanks to the chairmen: Prof. Ornella Pastoris (Dept. of Biology and Biotechnology «L. Spallanzani »University of Pavia), for the organizational support and the precious constant collaboration; Dr. Claudio Angelinetta (Bio Basic Europe Technical Director), for being always experienced and competent. Thanks to the speakers: Prof. Paola Minghetti (University of Milan/AFI) and Dr.ssa Roberta Marcoaldi (Institute of Health Rome), who shared through an open discussion their point of view regarding the evaluation of medical devices containing substances; Prof. Susanna Penco (University of Genoa / 3R Centre Pisa) for the interesting contribution on the principles of the 3Rs in animal experimentation.
